Bill would make University Center at Ponca City's advisers trustees

The University Center at Ponca City's advisory board now reports to Northern Oklahoma College's board of regents. House Bill 2443 would authorize the center's advisory board to transform into a board of trustees that would report and submit budgets directly to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

The regents, instead of Northern Oklahoma College, would handle fiscal matters for the center, said Stacy Tiger, the center's executive director.

"They're pulling away to be more autonomous," said Rep. Lee Denney, R-Cushing, who presented the bill to committee members.
